Zubie Key

Plug Zubie Key into your vehicle's diagnostic port (typically, it's under the steering wheel), then download the Zubie app to each user's smartphone. Now, it will monitor unsafe habits including speeding and hard braking, detect engine troubles early, provide maintenance updates, and give you real-time location tracking, so you can keep an eye on teens or the elderly, and even help them out with directions. Zubie gives each user a driving score, too, so you can work on improving yours -- or turn safe driving into a friendly family competition. $100 per annual subscription

Rearview Safety Wireless Backup Camera System

The Color 4.3-inch TFT LCD Mirror Monitor clips on to your existing rearview mirror, where it wirelessly broadcasts the view from the hi-def night vision camera mounted on the back of your vehicle. $190

Garmin Dash Cam 10

The wide-angle Dash Cam mounts to your windshield, where it records your drive in a loop. It has a special sensor that automatically saves the footage from just before, during, and after an incident. Upgrade to the Dash Cam 20 for another $30 and you'll also get GPS, which pinpoints exactly where and when the accident happened. $220

Mobileye 560 Collision Avoidance System

Its makers want you to think of Mobileye as your third eye, the one that never, ever leaves the road, even to mess with the radio. It beeps, and gives you visual warnings on its small, round, dash-mount display unit when you unintentionally leave your lane -- which, incidentally, is how most accidents occur -- and detects and warns drivers about pedestrians and cyclists, possible rear-end collisions, and more. It automatically (and appropriately) controls your high beams, and posts the current speed limit, too. $850

Gosher Premium Blind Spot Detection System

This system uses sonar sensors, placed just so on the lower front and rear of your vehicle, to make your blind spot visible again. An interior LED indicator flashes when an object is in your blind spot. If you flip on your turn signal, you'll get an audible beep of a warning, too. $317
