A Zoobilation Themed Nursery
A Day at the Zoo
Animals take the stage in a fun, sophisticated nursery. Two-tone stripes on the wall are visually interesting, but do not compete with the vibrant colors elsewhere in the room. For a great paint job, build a good relationship with your local paint shop staff. Who better than the experts to get hints and advice from?
Black accents were used liberally in the nursery. Touches of black allow the bright colors to pop. The striped fabric on the rocking chair mimics the stripes on the walls. A comfortable rocking chair is a nursery necessity for story time or rocking baby to sleep.
What Started it All
A mom's painting became the decor starting point for a daughter's nursery. The artwork inspired the color scheme -- rich reds, warm gold and black -- and the "zoobilation" theme.
A Father's Gift
Mom's painting is a key element in the room, but dad has a contribution as well. Dad, a decorative painter, collaborated with mom to come up with the bed's headboard and footboard. He painted a design based on the valance fabric.
The space-saving circular crib adds wood tones to the room's warm color palatte. The crib is ringed with a custom orange polka-dot crib skirt. When designing a nursery, look ahead to the time when the crib will come out. The room should retain fun accessories and wall treatments.
A bowed valance curves out from the wall to create an out of the ordinary window treatment. The paprika colored fabric is bright and cheery and the graphic leaf and swirl pattern hints at sophistication.
Tie it All Together
Black grosgrain ribbons secure the crib bumper to the crib. The ribbons add another punch of black for the same striking effect as elements found elsewhere in the room.
Two by Two
Pairs of animals parade around the border of this area rug. Such a decorative rug is like artwork for the floor. It will be a fun learning tool for teaching animal names as baby gets older.
Room to Grow
A bed in the nursery provides an extra sleeping spot and can be converted into a daybed when baby outgrows the crib. The orange and white bedding matches the crib, tying the two pieces together.
