The "don't judge a book by its cover" rule probably applies to wine labels, too. But when the wine label is a literal work of art, how could we not cave? Whether you need a bottle of wine for Thanksgiving dinner, as a gift for the artsy wine-lover in your life, or simply to enjoy with friends, here are some of the most beautiful bottles we've seen.

SAVED Red Wine

SAVED Red gets its showstopping label from American artist Scott Campbell. The label incorporates metal, glass, and an etched design, which we just can't stop staring at. The metallic accents catch the light beautifully, and if you look at the label closely you'll discover interesting phrases incorporated around the border. The red blend is Zinfandel-dominant with a ripe berry flavor.

Imagery Estate Winery Wow Oui White Wine

No winery takes the pairing of wine and art more seriously than Imagery. Each label is custom created by their more than 35 artists. The tasting room even has a gallery of the 200-plus pieces of art. In a fun "Where's Waldo"-type twist, each label includes a likeness of the Parthenon somewhere. This 2014 Wow Oui label was created by California-based artist Jean-Pierre Hebert. The label is re-created with each vintage, so they're ever-changing. The wine is a blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Muscat Canelli, and Viognier for a bright, fresh flavor with citrus and floral scents.

Kenwood Vineyards Artist Series

This 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon label was created by German contemporary artist Markus Linnenbrink. Layers of colored resin on wood with drilled-out areas make an eye-catching textured look. You can even feel the texture changes when you touch the label! The wine itself is full flavored and big bodied with aromas of black raspberries.

Imagery Estate Winery Dragonsleaf Red

The 2012 Dragonsleaf vintage features collaborative art by Joe Benziger and Bob Nugent. The bright colors will pop on your dinner table. Remember: Like all Imagery wines, the label will be created anew with a new vintage. This versatile red wine showcases flavors of raspberry, currant, blackberry, and white pepper for a fruity and slightly spicy wine.

Orin Swift Abstract

If you're looking for a funky, edgy wine label, check out the diverse offerings from Orin Swift. This 2014 California red wine label will keep you gazing for a long time to take in all the mini images scattered across. The wine is an inky-purple blend of Grenache, Petite Sirah, and Syrah, with notes of red and black stone fruits and sweet oak accents.
