What You'll Need:

  • White Cake recipe (in cupcake form)
  • Butter Cream Frosting recipe
  • Blue gel food coloring
  • Green gel food coloring
  • Mini marshmallows
  • Mini chocolate chips
  • Sticks of white gum
  • Decorative cupcake liners
  • Disposable piping bag
  • Petal-fluted decorating tip
  • Open round wide tip
  • Knife or scissors

Bake your cupcakes according to the recipe instructions; let cool completely. Prepare the Buttercream Frosting. Divide the frosting in half; tint one half blue and one half green with the gel food coloring. Add the blue frosting to a piping bag fitted with the petal-fluted tip, and add the green frosting to a piping bag fitted with the open round wide tip.

Using the petal-fluted tip, pipe blue ruffles onto the alligator cupcakes to create water waves.

Tip: Don't worry about perfecting this look since the alligator will go on top.

With the open round wide tip, pipe two large circles in green at the top of the cupcake. Top again with smaller round circles. Pipe the long nose of the alligator down and finish with the wide nose. Top the wide nose with two nostrils.

Cut the mini marshmallows in half with a knife or scissors. Use the corner of the blade to punch a small hole in the mini marshmallow. Place a mini chocolate chip inside the hole for the eyeball. Place both marshmallow eyes into the green frosting.

Cut white sticks of gum into small triangles and insert into the mouth by the blue water to make the teeth. Insert two mini chocolate chips for nostrils on the nose.
