These 6 Breakfast Hacks Will Make Your Busy Mornings Easier
The most important meal doesn't have to be difficult at all.
My grandma always says "breakfast is the most important meal of the day." And she's totally right. When we don't eat a proper breakfast we tend to overeat later in the day, our energy levels drop, and our metabolism slows down. But sometimes making breakfast seems so arduous! It feels like a daunting task to actually cook, eat, and do the dishes before we head to work and start a busy day. But these six easy and healthy breakfast recipes will revolutionize your morning breakfast routine, and probably your day. So, fall back in love with breakfast this fall with these simple and nutritious breakfast hacks.
Behold the Perfect Combo: The Baked Egg in Avocado
Get all your omega 3 fatty acids in early in the morning! With this awesome breakfast hack all you need is a ripe avocado and eggs. Simply halve the avocado, remove the pit, preheat your oven, break eggs into the avocado's pit hole, and bake for 15-20 minutes while you're getting ready for the day! And ta-da...you have a gooey, creamy, nutritious breakfast in just a few minutes. Get the full recipe from Pop Sugar Fitness right here. TIP: Cut up some of your favorite herbs, or add some spices of your choice, and sprinkle on top for an extra kick! We love chopped chives and red pepper flakes.
The Ultimate Breakfast Hack: Overnight Oats
This breakfast hack will work its magic all night long for you. All you have to do is wake up, roll OAT of bed, and enjoy! But seriously, this one is so easy and you can change it up with different toppings for the whole family to enjoy. SPOILER ALERT: There's absolutely NO cooking involved! Simply take some oats, soak them overnight in a yogurt and/or milk of your choice, and in the morning roll them out of bed and into your bowl! Add fruit, spices, nuts, and even peanut butter for added protein. For the fall, we suggest chopping up some fresh apples, walnuts, and adding a few dashes of cinnamon. Mmmmm. Check out this simple recipe from Kath Eats. This is also a great breakfast-on-the-go for your kids, or you! Just pack it up in a Mason Jar the night before and you're good to go.
Dress Up Your Leftovers: Put an Egg on It and Call it a Delicious Day
Don't know what to do with last night's leftovers? I do: Put an egg on it! Spruce up last night's veggies, rice, steak--you name it--and put an egg on it for an added protein kick to your morning. This picture is of my breakfast this morning. I heated up last night's leftover brown rice and ratatouille, fried an egg, and put it on top. To garnish, I added some fresh basil and parsley, salt and pepper, and olive oil. It's SO GOOD. And it literally took five minutes. You can do this too! Get creative with what you have at home. Don't have leftovers? Take a healthy, frozen burrito out of the freezer and cook up an egg to put on top. This will make for a hearty, quick, and delicious start to your morning. Plus, it won't break the bank.
Blend Your Way to a Smoothie Day
If you're anything like me, it's hard for you to fathom the idea of eating a big meal first thing in the morning. But you want the energy, nutrition, and super fuel to start you day. So, why not take it in liquid form? The breakfast smoothie is a quick and easy solution to getting all your nutrients in first thing -- not to mention, it's quite portable, so you can take it with you anywhere! Choose your fave veggies, fruits, milk, and protein powder (we love hemp protein!) and blend together for a smooth start to your day. We recommend getting everything ready the night before -- freeze your fruits and put your veggies in a Ziploc in the fridge -- that way all you have to do is throw them in the blender in the morning!
