Filled with raisins and candied fruit, this bread is a favorite treat to serve during Easter, Christmas, Kwanzaa, and New Year's.




  • Combine raisins, orange juice, and powdered saffron; let stand 10 minutes. Add mixture, the 1/4 cup milk, water, vanilla, the 1/4 teaspoon almond extract, margarine or butter, egg, bread flour, sugar, salt, yeast, and mixed candied fruits and peels to the bread machine pan according to manufacturer's directions for a 1-1/2-pound loaf. Select basic white bread cycle.

  • For glaze, combine powdered sugar, the few drops almond extract, and enough milk to make drizzling consistency. Drizzle over cooled loaf. Makes 16 servings.


For this 1-1/2 pound loaf, the bread machine pan must have a capacity of 10 cups or more.
