In a 2-quart baking dish layer in order the carrots, rutabaga, 1/4 cup of the cheese, sweet potatoes, and squash. Combine water, maple syrup, bouillon granules, salt, and pepper; pour over vegetables.
Bake, covered, in a 375 degree F oven about 35 minutes or until vegetables are just tender. Uncover vegetables; sprinkle with remaining 1/2 cup cheese and sliced almonds. Bake, uncovered, 10 to 15 minutes more or until almonds are lightly browned. Makes 8 servings.
