Apple-Buttered Sweet Potatoes


Cubes of sweet potato and Granny Smith apple cook alongside dried cherries, spices, and apple butter. This yummy side dish recipe won't last long before it's gobbled up!

  • 3 pound sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into 1-inch pieces (about 8 cups)

  • 2 medium Granny Smith and/or other tart cooking apples, cored and cut into wedges

  • ½ cup dried cherries or dried cranberries (optional)

  • 1 cup whipping cream

  • 1 cup apple butter

  • 1 ½ teaspoon pumpkin pie spice


  1. In a 3 1/2- or 4-quart slow cooker, combine sweet potato, apple, and, if desired, dried cherries. In a medium bowl, combine cream, apple butter, and pumpkin pie spice. Pour cream mixture over mixture in cooker; stir gently to combine.

  2. Cover and cook on low-heat setting for 6 to 7 hours or on high-heat setting for 3 to 3 1/2 hours.
