Topside-Down Pizza Casserole

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Grease a 2-quart rectangular baking dish; set aside. In a large skillet cook ground meat, mushrooms, sweet pepper, onion, and garlic over medium-high heat until meat is browned, using a wooden spoon to break up meat as it cooks. Drain off fat. Stir in marinara sauce, 1 cup of the cheese, the oregano, basil, and, if desired, cayenne pepper. Transfer to the prepared baking dish.
  2. Top meat mixture in baking dish with pizza dough, sealing dough to edges of baking dish. Sprinkle with the remaining 1/2 cup cheese. Bake, uncovered, for 20 to 25 minutes or until dough is golden brown. Let stand for 5 minutes before serving.
