  • If needed, cut meat to fit into a 3 1/2- or 4-qt. slow cooker. Sprinkle meat with salt and pepper. Place onion wedges in the cooker. Top with meat.

  • In a large bowl stir together barbecue sauce, carbonated beverage, and bourbon; pour over meat. Cover and cook on low 8 to 10 hours or high 4 to 5 hours.

  • Remove meat from cooker. Shred meat using two forks and place in a bowl. Using a slotted spoon, remove onion from cooking liquid and add to meat. Skim fat from cooking liquid.
