Ingredients

  • 1 pound 95% lean ground beef

  • 3 cup sliced fresh cremini mushrooms (8 ounces)

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 8 ounce can tomato sauce

  • ½ cup 50% less sodium beef broth

  • 2 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

  • 2 tablespoon red wine vinegar

  • 1 tablespoon molasses

  • ½ - ¾ teaspoon ground chipotle chile pepper

  • 6 multigrain hamburger buns, split and toasted

  • 6 slices Monterey Jack cheese with jalapeño peppers or cheddar cheese

  • Sliced red onion

Directions

  1. In a large skillet cook the first three ingredients (through garlic) over medium-high heat until meat is browned. Drain off fat.

  2. Stir in the next six ingredients (through chipotle pepper). Bring to boiling; reduce heat. Simmer, uncovered, 5 to 6 minutes or until liquid is slightly thickened (mixture should still be saucy). Serve in buns with cheese and onion.

Perfect Pair

These spicy sandwiches team well with a creamy slaw, such as packaged shredded broccoli slaw mix with thin strips of red sweet pepper and a bottled light coleslaw dressing.
