Filled with sausage and vegetables, this 30-minute stew will fill your house with the scents of a pizza parlor as it simmers on the stove.




  • In a large saucepan cook sausage, mushrooms, onion, and garlic until meat is brown and onion is tender. Drain fat.

  • Stir in undrained tomatoes, frozen vegetables, pizza sauce, tomato juice, oregano, and fennel seed. Bring to boiling. Reduce heat. Cover and simmer for 15 minutes.

  • Meanwhile, sprinkle toasted bread with mozzarella cheese. Place bread under the broiler for 1 to 2 minutes or until cheese melts.

  • To serve, ladle the sausage mixture into bowls. Top each serving with a slice of toasted bread. Makes 6 servings.
