Shortcut Baklava Tassies

Directions

  1. Spoon about 1 teaspoon chopped toasted walnuts into each of the baked miniature phyllo dough shells.
  2. In a small saucepan combine sugar, honey, butter, lemon peel, lemon juice, and ground cinnamon. Cook and stir over medium heat until mixture is bubbly. Cook for 1 minute more, stirring constantly.
  3. Carefully pour some of the mixture over walnuts in each phyllo shell (shell will be full). Top filling in each phyllo shell with 1/2 teaspoon additional chopped toasted walnuts. Let stand until set.

To Store:

Place tassies in a single layer in an airtight container; cover. Store in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 3 months. To serve, thaw tassies, if frozen, for 2 hours at room temperature.
