Sauerkraut & Apples

Directions

  1. In a 4- to 5-qt. heavy pot melt butter over medium-high heat. Add onion and cook about 6 minutes or until golden, stirring occasionally. Stir in sauerkraut, apples, and wine. Bring to boiling. Reduce heat; simmer, covered, about 1 hour or until sauerkraut is very tender, stirring occasionally.
  2. Stir in 3 Tbsp. brown sugar and 1/2 tsp. each kosher salt and pepper. Add additional brown sugar, salt, and pepper to taste.

Topping

Core and chop one Gala, Fuji, or Red Delicious apple. Cook in 2 Tbsp. butter until just softened. Sprinkle over sauerkraut dish with 1 Tbsp. snipped fresh dill weed.
