Directions

  1. In a medium saucepan combine chicken broth, sweet potato, carrots, and onion. Bring to boiling. Reduce heat; simmer, covered, for 20 minutes or until vegetables are tender. Remove from heat; cool slightly.
  2. Pour half the vegetable mixture into a deep bowl or blender container. Blend with immersion blender or in blender until smooth. Repeat with remaining mixture. Return all to saucepan. Bring to boiling; reduce heat. Simmer, uncovered, for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat; stir in molasses, allspice, salt, and pepper. Makes about 12 (1/4-cup) servings or 3 cups total.

Prepare gravy as above. Cover and chill in the refrigerator up to 3 days. To serve, transfer gravy to a medium saucepan; heat through over medium heat, stirring occasionally.
