Nothing could be fresher than a tomato sauce consisting of grated fresh tomatoes. Use the tomato sauce on cooked pasta for a super easy dinner idea.
Cut tomatoes in half crosswise. Using the coarse side of a box grater, carefully grate the cut sides of the tomatoes into a bowl until only skins remain. Discard the skins.
In a large skillet cook onions and garlic in hot oil for about 2 minutes or until aromatic and softened. Add tomato puree and bring just to simmering; remove from heat. Stir in basil and season to taste with salt and pepper. Serve over hot cooked pasta.
