Directions

  1. Rinse split peas; drain.
  2. In a 3-1/2- or 4-quart crockery cooker combine the split peas, turkey or turkey sausage, carrots, chives, garlic, and dried basil and oregano (if using). Pour chicken broth and water over all.
  3. Cover; cook on low-heat setting for 6 to 8 hours or on high-heat setting for 3 to 4 hours. Stir in dried tomatoes; cover and let stand for 10 minutes. If using, stir in fresh basil and oregano.
