Pear-Pecan Crisp

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Quarter, core, and thinly slice the pears. In a large bowl toss together pear slices and the 1/4 cup maple syrup. Sprinkle with flour, nutmeg, cardamom, and salt. Toss to combine. Transfer mixture to a 2-quart rectangular baking dish. Cover with foil; bake for 10 minutes.
  2. Meanwhile, in a medium bowl stir together pecans, oats, butter, the 2 tablespoons syrup, and the cinnamon. Uncover pear mixture; spoon pecan mixture evenly over partially cooked pears.
  3. Bake, uncovered, for 25 to 30 minutes or until filling is bubbly and topping is lightly browned. Cool in dish on a wire rack about 20 minutes. Serve warm. If desired, serve with ice cream.

*Tip:

The pears should be just ripe for best results.

Tip:

If desired, substitute 6 large cooking apples for the pears. In Step 1, increase the initial bake time for the apples to 20 minutes.
