  • 1 cup natural apple juice

  • ½ cup natural creamy peanut butter or peanut butter

  • ½ cup unsweetened applesauce

  • ¼ cup honey

  • 1 tablespoon canola oil

  • 1 ½ cup rolled oats

  • 1 cup white whole wheat flour

  • ¾ cup all-purpose flour

  1. Preheat oven to 300°F. In a large saucepan whisk together first five ingredients (through oil). Cook over medium heat until mixture starts to simmer and thicken, whisking frequently. Remove from heat. Stir in oats; cool slightly. Stir in both flours (dough will be very stiff). Divide dough in half.

  2. On a lightly floured surface, roll one portion of dough at a time until 1/4 inch thick. Using cookie cutters, cut dough into desired shapes. Place cutouts on two ungreased large cookie sheets.

  3. Bake on separate oven racks 15 minutes. Turn treats over and rearrange sheets. Bake 15 minutes more or until light brown. Turn off oven; let dry in oven 1 hour. If desired, decorate with additional peanut butter.
