Learn about BHG's Editorial Process Updated on November 8, 2012 Print Rate It Share Share Tweet Pin Email Prep Time: 25 mins Bake Time: 25 mins Total Time: 25 mins Yield: 24 bars Jump to Nutrition Facts Ingredients 1 recipe Basic Cookie Dough 1 10 ounce jar strawberry preserves 1 cup regular rolled oats ¼ cup packed brown sugar ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon 2 tablespoon butter Basic Cookie Dough ¼ cup butter, softened ¼ cup shortening 2 ounce cream cheese, softened 1 cup packed brown sugar ½ teaspoon baking powder ½ teaspoon salt ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg 1 egg 2 teaspoon vanilla 2 ½ cup all-purpose flour Directions Preheat oven to 375°F. Prepare Basic Cookie Dough as directed, except substitute 1/4 cup creamy peanut butter for the cream cheese and reduce flour to 2 cups. Press 2 cups of the dough evenly onto the bottom of an ungreased 13x9x2-inch baking pan. Bake crust about 10 minutes or until set. Spread preserves evenly over hot crust. Add oats, brown sugar, and cinnamon to the remaining dough. Using a pastry blender, cut in butter until combined (mixture will be crumbly). Sprinkle crumb mixture over preserves. Bake for 15 to 18 minutes more or until top is lightly browned. Cool in pan on a wire rack. Cut into bars. Basic Cookie Dough In a large bowl combine butter, shortening, and cream cheese. Beat with an electric mixer on medium to high speed for 30 seconds. Add brown sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Beat until combined, scraping bowl occasionally. Beat in egg and vanilla until combined. Beat in as much of the flour as you can with the mixer. Using a wooden spoon, stir in any remaining flour. To Store: Place bars in a single layer in an airtight container; cover. Store in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
