  • Grease twenty-four 1 3/4-inch muffin cups; set aside. In a large mixing bowl prepare hot roll mix according to package directions through the resting step, stirring the 1/4 cup cheese, the sugar, and basil into the flour mixture.

  • Using a knife, divide dough in half. Divide each half into 12 portions (24 portions total). Gently pull each portion into a ball, tucking edges beneath. Arrange balls, smooth sides up, in the prepared muffin cups. Cover and let rise in a warm place until nearly double in size (about 30 minutes).

  • Preheat oven to 400°F. Using a pastry brush, brush tops of rolls with milk; sprinkle with the 2 tablespoons cheese. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes or until tops are golden. Remove rolls from muffin cups and serve warm.

To Make Ahead:

Prepare and bake rolls as directed; cool completely. Wrap rolls in foil and freeze for up to 2 days. To serve, preheat oven to 350°F. Reheat the wrapped frozen rolls about 20 minutes or until heated through.
