Oven-Baked Sicilian Meatballs

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. In a large bowl combine bread crumbs and milk. Let stand 5 minutes. Stir in the next nine ingredients (through pepper). Add sausage; mix well.
  2. Shape mixture into 24 meatballs. Place meatballs in a single layer in a 15x10x1-inch baking pan. Bake, uncovered, 25 to 30 minutes or until meatballs are done (160 degrees F)*. Drain off fat. If desired, serve with pasta sauce for dipping.

The internal color of a meatball is not a reliable doneness indicator. A sausage meatball cooked to 160 degrees F is safe, regardless of color. To measure the doneness of a meatball, insert an instant-read thermometer into the center of the meatball.
