Grease 12 muffin cups. In a large mixing bowl stir together bran cereal, dates, and boiling water. Let stand 5 minutes. Stir in corn syrup, oil, and egg. In a medium mixing bowl stir together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt; stir in walnuts. Stir dry mixture into date mixture.
Fill prepared muffin cups two-thirds full of batter. Bake in a 400 degree F oven for 20 minutes or until golden brown. Makes 12 muffins.
