If you're looking for a change from the typical chili, give this one a try. The addition of curry, apples, almonds, cocoa, and cinnamon bring unexpected but savory flavors.
In a large Dutch oven cook beef, onions, and garlic until meat is brown. Drain off fat.
Stir in undrained tomatoes, tomato sauce, broth, sweet peppers, green chili peppers, apples, chili powder, cocoa, curry, and cinnamon. Bring to boiling; reduce heat. Cover; simmer for 1 hour.
Add kidney beans and almonds. Heat through. Serve with raisins, cheddar cheese, and yogurt or sour cream, if desired. Makes 8 servings.
