Italian Pasta Treats

Directions

  1. Cook pasta according to package directions; drain. Rinse with cold water; drain again. Pat pasta dry with paper towels.
  2. In a heavy, deep 3-quart saucepan or fryer heat oil to 365 degrees F. Using a spoon, carefully add cooked pasta, about 1/2 cup at a time, to hot oil. Fry for 30 to 60 seconds or until golden brown, stirring occasionally. Using a slotted spoon, carefully remove fried pasta from hot oil; drain on paper towels. Repeat with remaining pasta. When cool, separate any pasta that stuck together during frying.
  3. In a large bowl combine fried pasta, almonds, and pine nuts. Drizzle with melted butter and vinegar; toss gently to coat. In a small bowl combine cheese, garlic salt, Italian seasoning, and crushed red pepper. Sprinkle cheese mixture over pasta mixture; toss gently to coat. Place pasta treats in box; close box.

MAKE-AHEAD DIRECTIONS:

Place pasta treats in an airtight container; cover. Store at room temperature for up to 3 days.

* To Toast Nuts:

Spread nuts in a single layer in a shallow baking pan. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 5 to 10 minutes or until lightly golden, shaking the pan once or twice; let cool.
