Italian-Herb Turkey Meatballs

Half Italian, half down-home barbecue fare, these turkey meatballs are 100% delicious. Try them as an appetizer or in a sub sandwich.

Ingredients

  • 1 egg, lightly beaten

  • 1 ½ pound lean ground turkey

  • ½ cup grated Grana Padano cheese

  • cup chopped fresh flat-leaf Italian parsley

  • ¼ cup chopped fresh oregano

  • ¼ cup panko bread crumbs

  • ¼ cup ricotta cheese

  • ¼ cup Worcestershire sauce

  • 2 tablespoon tomato paste

  • 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper

  • 2 tablespoon olive oil

Balsamic BBQ Sauce for Meatballs

  • 1 cup balsamic vinegar

  • cup ketchup

  • ¼ cup packed brown sugar

  • 1 orange, peeled, finely shredded, and juiced (1 tablespoon peel, 1/4 cup juice)

  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh rosemary

  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

  • 1 tablespoon Dijon-style mustard

  • 1 clove garlic, minced

  • ¼ teaspoon salt

  • teaspoon ground black pepper

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Line a 15x10x1-inch baking pan with parchment paper; set aside.

  2. In a large bowl, combine egg, turkey, Garana Padano, parsley, oregano, panko, ricotta, Worcestershire sauce, tomato paste, crushed red pepper, garlic, salt and pepper. Mix together with your hands. Shape meat mixture into 1 1/2-inch meatballs. Place meatballs in the prepared pan. Brush with olive oil.

  3. Bake for 22 to 25 minutes or until cooked through (165°F). Serve with Balsamic BBQ Sauce for Meatballs.

Balsamic BBQ Sauce for Meatballs

  1. Stir together all ingredients in a small saucepan until smooth. Bring to boiling; reduce heat. Simmer, uncovered, over medium heat about 20 minutes or until reduced to 1 1/3 cups, stirring occasionally.
