- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Roll dough into 1 1/2-inch balls. Roll balls in sugar. Place 3 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets. Use clean kitchen scissors to snip the balls almost in half. Snip each half into three "petals", cutting almost to the center. Gently flatten. Place a candy in the center of each. Bake for 7 to 9 minutes or just until golden on the eges. Cool 2 minutes on cookie sheets. Remove and cool completely on wire racks.

If using purchased dough, knead in 1/2 cup flour. You will only get about 21 cookies from 1 package of dough.
Sugar Cookie Cutouts Dough
- In a large mixing bowl beat butter on medium to high speed for 30 seconds. Add granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt. Beat until combined, scraping sides of bowl occasionally. Beat in egg, milk, and vanilla until combined. Beat in as much of the flour as you can with the mixer. Stir in any remaining flour. Divide dough in half. Cover and chill dough about 30 minutes or until easy to handle.
