In a small saucepan combine the water, sugar, and ginger. Bring to boiling, stirring until sugar dissolves; reduce heat. Simmer for 10 minutes. Cool ginger syrup to room temperature; strain through a fine-mesh sieve into a bowl. Cover and chill for at least 2 hours.
In a large punch bowl or pitcher combine the chilled ginger syrup, the pineapple juice, vodka, lemon juice, and lime juice. Stir in club soda. Add ice cubes and lime slices.
Tote the ginger syrup and other ingredients in covered containers and mix the punch at your destination.
