Thaw shrimp, if frozen. Peel and devein shrimp, leaving tails intact if desired. Rinse shrimp; pat dry with paper towels.
In a large skillet combine oil, butter, garlic, thyme, and bay leaves. Cook and stir over medium heat until butter is melted. In a medium bowl combine sherry, paprika, Worcestershire sauce, and salt. Add shrimp; toss gently to coat. Add shrimp mixture to hot butter mixture. Cook and stir for 3 to 5 minutes or until shrimp are opaque.
If desired, transfer shrimp mixture to a serving dish. Remove bay leaves; discard. Serve with lemon wedges and bread slices.
