  • In a 10-inch well-seasoned or enamel-lined cast-iron skillet cook sausage over medium-high heat until browned; drain off fat. Stir in next nine ingredients (through pepper). Bring to boiling; reduce heat. Simmer, covered, 15 minutes, stirring occasionally (pasta will not be tender).

  • Meanwhile, preheat oven to 400°F. Sprinkle pasta mixture with cheese. Transfer skillet to oven and bake, uncovered, 10 to 15 minutes or until pasta is tender and cheese is golden. If desired, sprinkle with additional basil. Let stand 5 minutes before serving.
