  • In a medium saucepan combine applesauce, brown sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Bring to boiling over medium heat. Reduce heat and simmer, uncovered, about 15 minutes or until it is the consistency of apple butter, stirring occasionally. Serve warm. Cover and refrigerate remaining toping for up to 1 week. Makes 1-1/2 cups.
