Directions

  1. Grease a 13x9x2-inch baking pan. Set aside.
  2. For dough, in a medium mixing bowl combine the egg and sour cream. In a large mixing bowl stir together the flour, the 2 tablespoons granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt; add to sour cream mixture. Mix well.
  3. On a well-floured surface, roll out dough to a 12-inch square. Spread apples over dough. In a small mixing bowl combine the 1/4 cup granulated sugar, the cinnamon, and nutmeg; sprinkle over the apples. Carefully roll up into a spiral. Cut into twelve 1-inch-thick slices. Place slices, cut sides down, in prepared pan.
  4. In a medium mixing bowl stir together the water, brown sugar, the 1/4 cup granulated sugar, the cornstarch, and lemon juice; pour over slices in pan. Dot with the margarine or butter.
  5. Bake, uncovered, in a 350 degree F oven for 35 to 40 minutes or until golden brown. To serve, spoon warm apple dumplings and the pan juices into individual dessert dishes. If desired, serve with half-and-half, light cream, or ice cream. Makes 12 servings.
