Reserve 1/3 cup of the cranberries for garnish; set the remaining cranberries aside. Using a vegetable peeler, remove strips of peel from lemon.
For cranberry syrup, in a medium saucepan combine lemon peel, the water, sugar, cinnamon, cloves, and sage. Bring to boiling, stirring to dissolve sugar. Add the remaining cranberries.
