Cracklin' Cracker Toffee

Directions

  1. Lightly grease a 15x10x1-inch baking pan; line with a single layer of flatbread crackers. In a small saucepan combine crushed graham crackers, brown sugar, butter, and half-and-half. Bring to boiling; reduce heat to medium. Cook and stir for 7 minutes. Stir in vanilla. Quickly pour over crackers, spreading evenly. Let stand about 30 minutes or until set.
  2. In a small saucepan melt chocolate pieces and shortening over low heat, stirring until smooth. Spread evenly over graham cracker layer. Sprinkle with nuts and toffee pieces. Let stand or chill about 1 hour or until set. Cut or break toffee into pieces.

Place in layers separated by waxed paper in an airtight container; cover. Store at room temperature for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
