Cornmeal Stars

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. In a large bowl stir together cookie dough, cornmeal, and lemon peel until combined (knead dough if necessary to combine).
  2. On a lightly floured surface, roll dough until 1/4 inch thick. Using a 2 1/2- to 3-inch star-shape cookie cutter, cut out dough. Place cutouts 1 inch apart on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake for 7 to 8 minutes or until centers are set and edges just start to brown. Cool on cookie sheet for 2 minutes. Transfer to a wire rack; cool.
  3. For icing, in a medium bowl stir together powdered sugar, 3 tablespoons of the milk, and the vanilla. If necessary, stir in enough of the remaining milk, 1 teaspoon at a time, to reach spreading consistency. Spread cookies with icing. If desired, sprinkle with edible glitter. Let stand until icing is set.
