  • In a large saucepan combine the medium banana, the 2 tablespoons brown sugar, the butter, cinnamon, and salt; cook over medium-low heat about 2 minutes or until banana slices are caramelized. Transfer banana to a blender. Add milk. Cover and blend until smooth; set aside.

  • Return the saucepan to medium heat. Add the water; heat until water is warm. Gradually add masa harina, whisking until combined. Add banana-milk mixture, chocolate, piloncillo, and ground anise. Reduce heat to medium-low. Cook and stir about 15 minutes or just until mixture comes to a simmer and chocolate is completely melted. Serve immediately. If desired, garnish with additional thinly sliced banana.
