Salmon that is cured before it is smoked at low temperatures results in a firm, sliceable fish called lox. Salmon smoked at higher temperatures flakes easily. Both types of smoked salmon work fine in the strata.

  • Lightly grease a 3-quart rectangular baking dish. Arrange half of the bagel pieces in the prepared baking dish. Top with cream cheese, salmon, onion, and chives. Arrange the remaining bagel pieces over salmon mixture.

made this for a thanksgiving side- it was pretty tasty and made great leftovers, but I would leave out the cottage cheese next time - and I always exclude onions and chives. used extra salmon bits as well.

If you love the classic lox, bagels, with cream cheese, red onions, capers etc - just do that. It was almost like you wrecked the ingredients by cooking them all together.
