You can make these Philly Cheesesteak Sliders in advance to have more time for your party planning. Prepare sandwiches through Step 2, except do not drizzle with butter. Cover and chill up to 24 hours. Uncover; drizzle with butter and cover with foil. Bake as directed in Step 3.

Ingredients

  • 6 tablespoons butter

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

  • 2 large onions, halved and thinly sliced

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

  • 12 ounces deli roast beef, thinly sliced

  • 6 6-inch hoagie rolls, split and halved crosswise

  • 6 ounces thinly sliced provolone cheese

  • 8 ounces cheese spread (chive-and-onion, garlic-and-herb, or plain)

Directions

  1. In a 12-inch skillet heat 2 Tbsp. of the butter and the olive oil over medium. Add onions, salt, and pepper. Cook, stirring occasionally, until very tender and starting to brown, about 15 minutes.

  2. Preheat oven to 350°F. Arrange roll bottoms in a 13x9-inch baking pan or 3-qt. rectangular baking dish. Layer roll bottoms with roast beef, onions, and cheese. Spread cut sides of roll tops with cream cheese. Add roll tops to sandwiches. Melt the remaining ¼ cup butter. Drizzle over rolls. Cover with foil.

  3. Bake 15 minutes. Uncover; bake until cheese is melted and roll tops are light brown, 10 to 15 minutes more.
