The 50 Most Popular Names for Male and Female Dogs in 2020
Check out these trending options for inspiration on what to call your new pet.
Whether you recently adopted a dog, are researching breeds to decide the best option for your family, or maybe just daydreaming about owning a pup in the future, you know that one of the first things to do when you get a new pet is to give them a name. To help you on your naming journey, Rover just released its most popular dog names from 2020. The roundup includes classics options, unique choices, and other names to consider for your four-legged friend.
To come up with the list, Rover reviewed its database of more than one million names and analyzed new and trending names. Celebrity names are often popular, and this year was no exception. Chrissy, Kanye, and Jay-Z were all trending upward. Owners were also inspired by music; Taylor Swift trended up 92% in 2020. And people liked options from TV shows this year. Carole, as in Carole Baskin from Tiger King, has increased in popularity by 46%. But famous faces weren't the only place people were drawing inspiration. Owners are also looking at their favorite food and drinks for names. Pumpernickel, Waffles, and Croissant were trendy this year. Pinot Noir, Rosé, and Cider were also more popular than in previous years. And perhaps the most fitting option? For the first time ever, Sourdough was in the database of names.
When it comes to the top spots, most of the names are classics. Check out the lists below for the most popular male and female dog names of 2020.
