Now that you've added a new cat to your household, the work has just begun to prep your home with all the necessary additions and introduce your new feline to the rest of your family, especially your other pets. However, before any of that, you need to name your feline. You decided on an orange cat, and because these bright-colored kitties are eye-catching, you'll want a name that also stands out. But first, you might want to know a little information about your new cat. Because the color comes from the X chromosome, according to the National Center for Biotechnology Information, orange cats can be male or female. Cat breeders actually refer to orange cats red as but sometimes call them yellow, ginger, or marmalade. Although calico cats do have spots of orange, they're categorized as a different type of feline because of their special multi-colored coat. However, all orange cats are considered tabbies, which you'll recognize by the "M" marking on their forehead.

I really wanted to rescue an orange cat. I even chose the name Cheddar before I found this beautiful 8 month old orange kitten at the county humane society. The volunteers warned me - "he plays a little rough". Something bad must have happened to him in his early months - he was so mean to me and my daughters. They learned to stay away from Cheddar but he would attack me and draw blood on my arms and legs everyday. The cute little monster would jump up in my husband's arms and snuggle with him!?!
