Hands with gray painted nails

Not sure which hue is for you? Next time you're picking out your polish at the nail salon, you might want to consider grey. It's an underrated—but lovely—choice for fingers and toes.

"I absolutely love grey polish since it can really be worn in any season. Being such a neutral shade, you’re able to wear grey year-long without it clashing with your outfit or surroundings," Skyy Hadley, celebrity manicurist and owner of As U Wish Nail Spa in Hoboken, New Jersey shares with Southern Living. "Also, since there are so many shade variations, it’s super flattering on all skin tones! Although grey is often linked to gloomy weather, it’s one of the chicest colors you can put on your nails this season."

Below, Hadley's top picks for grey nail polish.

  1. Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in Show Steel-er: "You can’t beat the fast drying formula of this product! Just one coat and you’re ready to go," says Hadley.
  2. Lauren B. Greystone Grey:"This is the perfect in-between shade — not too light, not too dark. This glossy slate hue is perfectly moody," notes Hadley.
  3. Essie Closing Night: "I love the added shimmer in this shade! If you’re worried that grey may be a little too subtle for your look, this shimmering finish is sure to change your mind," comments Hadley.
  4. Sally Hansen Miracle Gel in Stilettos & Studs: "This is a great option if you’re looking for a darker shade of grey that can almost be passed off as black," offers Hadley. "I love the look of this color when combined with the Sally Hansen Miracle Gel Matte Top Coatthe matte finish completely elevates the look!
