June 12 is National Peanut Butter Cookie Day, but that’s not the only thing worth celebrating. Nutter Butter, everyone’s favorite peanut butter sandwich cookie, is turning 50 this year, and to celebrate, they’re paying homage to five decades of delicious cookie history. Since their creation in 1969, we’ve enjoyed Nutter Butters in a variety of shapes and sizes—aside from their classic peanut shape, they’ve also been sold in bite-sized, round, and even fudge-covered variations.

Of course, there’s no reason to change a classic, so Nutter Butter’s 50th anniversary is celebrating their iconic peanut-shaped, peanut butter crème-filled sandwich cookies. Six different packaging designs are being released for the festivities, one for each decade Nutter Butters have been sold in, starting with the 1960s. Each package is designed to evoke memories from its decade—the 60s packaging features tie-dye, the 70s has a disco ball design, and the package for the 2010s is covered in emojis.

If you grew up snacking on Nutter Butters, there are other ways to revisit the brand’s early days, too. YouTube has a few old Nutter Butter commercials you can watch to relive the nostalgia—this one from 1973 shows just how far the brand has come since its early days.

Nutter Butter is also hosting a sweepstakes for their 50th birthday—beginning on June 12 and running through August 31, you can snap a picture of yourself with Nutter Butter cookies, submit it to their website, and be entered for a chance to win a trip to one of six locations around the country. Trips to New York, California, Florida, and Texas are all up for grabs, so if you’re snacking on a Nutter Butter, take a few seconds to enter.

There are plenty of ways you can celebrate on your own, too. Their peanut shape makes Nutter Butters great for all kinds of cute cookie recipes. We’ve turned them into sweet snowmen and Thanksgiving turkeys before, but there are all kinds of ways to get creative with this cookie. No matter how you celebrate, make sure you treat yourself to a cookie.
