This International Cuisine Was Just Ranked the Most Popular in the World
A survey of over 25,000 people in 24 different countries determined the world’s favorite cuisine.
Pizza and pasta are clearly popular all over the globe because according to a recent survey by YouGov, Italian cuisine was just ranked the most popular in the world. The study included asking over 25,000 people in 24 different countries whether they had tried and enjoyed a variety of international cuisines. Italian food came out on top, with an average of 84 percent of people saying they had tried and liked Italian cuisine.

Unsurprisingly, Italian food is the most popular in Italy—99 percent of Italian respondents said they had tried and like their country’s food. And Americans enjoy Italian food in even higher numbers than the international average, with 88 percent of Americans responding that they enjoy Italian.
Rounding out the top five most popular cuisines after Italian was Chinese food with 78 percent, Japanese food with 71 percent, and Thai and French cuisine tied at 70 percent. American food is a little less popular worldwide, coming in seventh place with 68 percent of international respondents saying they had tried and liked it.
Fans of spicy food might be a little surprised to see that Mexican cuisine didn’t crack the top five. Rest assured, it did make the top ten, coming in just behind American cuisine with 67 percent in eighth place.
Out of the 34 different international cuisines that were included in the study, there ended up being a tie for the least popular cuisine worldwide. Both Finnish and Peruvian food sadly came in last place, each with just 32 percent of respondents saying they had tried and liked each countries’ food. However, you might want to take these results with a grain of salt—Finnish citizens were included in the survey, while Peruvians were not, so it’s possible that Peruvian cuisine would edge out Finnish dishes if Peruvian citizens had also been asked about their preferences.
