These brands will plant at least one (if not more!) trees with your purchase. Get products you love while knowing you're helping to restore forests.

By Jenny Krane

Trees help to provide shade, privacy, and oxygen to our everyday lives. According to World Bank, over the last 25 years, the world's forests have shrunk by 1.3 million square kilometers—that's 1,000 football fields-worth of forests lost every hour. While farming and mining are good for the economy and provide products that we use in everyday life, no one wants to see the end of natural forests in their lifetime. Birds and other animals would lose their habitat and Earth's air quality would suffer. That's why it's important to plant trees—we need to replenish the forests.

Luckily, more and more companies are going eco-friendly and are starting campaigns and projects to help our planet. Many are operating on the buy one, plant one model—with every purchase, some or all of their profits go to planting a tree. Here are a few North American companies that will plant a tree (or multiple trees!) with your purchase.

Baron Fig

Baron Fig is a stationery store that specializes in notebooks, writing utensils, backpacks, and desk essentials. It all started on Kickstarter when two friends created the most functional notebook (it actually lays flat no matter what page you are turned to) that they called the Confidant. Purchase one of these unique notebooks to house your to-do lists and Baron Fig will plant a tree. So far, they have planted over 190,000 trees in over 30 countries around the world.

Forestry

Calling all Pacific Northwesterners: Forestry is a clothing company that creates graphic tees, sweatshirts, and hats with designs that focus on the top left corner of the country. We especially love the slouchy beanies; they're a cute way to keep your ears warm in the winter. Every purchase plants a tree in your name and contributes to one of many local organizations that Forestry partners with.
