Joseph Tychonievich has been gardening since he was a teenager, and has worked in the horticulture industry for nearly two decades. He is the author of three gardening books, contributes regularly to national gardening magazines, and speaks at over a dozen gardening events and conferences each year.

After earning his horticulture degree, Joseph worked for specialty nurseries in Japan and the United States before writing his first book, Plant Breeding for the Home Gardener. After his first book came out, he transitioned to working full-time as a freelance garden writer and communicator. He then published two more books: Rock Gardening (which won the American Horticultural Society's Book Award in 2017) and The Comic Book Guide to Growing Food. He also writes regularly for gardening magazines such as Fine Gardening and Horticulture, and speaks at gardening events and conferences around the US and Canada.


Joseph graduated summa cum laude from The Ohio State University, earning a Bachelors of Science degree in Horticulture and a minor in Entomology.
