Step 1: Paint

Start by painting a wood circle with chalkboard paint. This will be the center of your flower. Allow the circle to dry. Next, paint wood hearts with exterior latex paint. Choose a single color for a unified bloom, or mix things up by painting half the hearts one color and half another.

For a trendy ombre look, paint the bottom of the heart a lighter shade than the top, then blend the two hues together in the middle. Instead of buying two paint colors that might not match up, simply buy a white paint and lighten your original color for the second shade. Let the hearts dry before moving to the next step.

Step 2: Glue

After both the circle and hearts are completely dry, glue hearts to the back of the circle. To do so, turn the circle over so that the unpainted side is up. Dab two dots of glue at the top of each heart on the painted side. Place hearts evenly around the circle. Allow the glue to dry. Next, attach a hook by gluing it onto the top of one of the hearts on the unpainted side.

Step 3: Prime

Next, prime the surface with chalk. Take a piece of chalk and lay it flat against the chalkboard surface. Run the chalk across the surface until it is evenly coated with chalk. Then, wipe the excess chalk away with a paper towel. This will ensure that your words can be easily written and cleanly erased on the surface.

Step 4: Write & Hang

Use the chalk to write your message on the surface. This can be changed anytime, so don't stress if you're unsure of what to say! Then, choose where you want your sign to go, and hang the sign up on a hook or nail.
