Make your own pillow with Mom's favorite colors for your next Mother's Day gift. Made with your choice of colored cotton and T-shirt transfer paper, this picture pillow is guaranteed to make your mom smile. Easily customizable, this DIY pillow gift is perfect for Mother's Day.
To make, cut a square of cotton fabric smaller than and complementary to the fabric on the pillow front. Scan a photo to fit with about a 1-inch border on all sides. Print it onto T-shirt transfer paper, trim closely around the photo, and iron onto white cotton fabric (do not remove the paper yet). Next, iron the white fabric to fusible web. Trim around the photo; remove the backing from the fusible web, and iron it onto the center of the colored fabric.
Press and remove the paper from the iron-on transfer. Use fabric glue to frame the photo with trim and to attach the fabric square to the pillow.
Tip: If you want to use a premade form for stuffing, be sure to make your pillow a standard size.
Perk up plain white pillows with a quick dip-dye. Mom will love these art-inspired throw pillows. To create, fold pillow slip in half and dip folded line into a bath of Kelly green liquid dye. Rinse and dry pillow. Continue to dip in additional shades of green to the outer edge. Four colors—emerald green, Kelly green, dark green, and teal—were used to create the broad band of green. Immerse the opposite edge into a watery bath of Scandinavian pink.
This DIY pillow makes the perfect Mother's Day gift. A simple embroidered tree celebrates family and makes for a stunning throw pillow.
To make, trace your desired pattern onto the center of the front of the pillow slip and follow the outline with embroidery thread. When choosing thread colors, pick Mom's favorite.
When making this monogram, look for materials that won't fray when cut, such as felt. Cut initials and secure them to a pillow made from wool felt. Simply stitch the letters onto the pillow, and voila!
Does Mom love fresh flowers? Give her blooms she can display all year long. This felt pillow is a stunning Mother's Day gift.
Cut simple five-petal flower shapes from wool felt, then layer several graduated sizes to make one flower. Stitch through the centers of the flowers to tack them together. After you have created about a dozen flowers (or more for a larger pillow), stitch them to the pillow surface, bunching them tightly together to create dimension.
