Top Picks for Self-Tanning Lotions

Get glowing without the guilt! Fashion and Beauty Director Ellen Miller shares her favorite self-tanners.

Q: I want to try self-tanner before I break out my spring skirts, but I hate the way these products smell. Which ones won't make me hold my nose?

A: As quite possibly the palest person on the planet, I can relate to the desire for some extra color. But it's true—tanners typically don't pass the sniff test. Fortunately, some new products are addressing the issue by adding odor-absorbing ingredients and masking fragrances. For a buildable bronze, try the recently reformulated Jergens Natural Glow Daily Moisturizer ($8.99; drugstores). St. Tropez Self Tan Bronzing Mousse ($32; sephora.com) lends more dramatic results. And if you can't commit, Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs Liquid Makeup ($13.99; drugstores) washes off with soap.
