No-Carve Pumpkins Decorated with Yarn!

Skip the carving knife in favor of Halloween pumpkins that speak to your crafty side. Colorful yarn and hot glue are about all you need to create playful pumpkins that last for months not just a few days.

Cheer up a basic pumpkin with yarn in any color you choose. We have two ways to wrap and display this crafty fall idea. It's perfect as a Halloween decoration, too!

Materials

  • Gourds
  • Yarn
  • Hot-glue gun and glue sticks
  • Sewing needle

Pumpkin Idea No. 1:

  1. Hot-glue the end of your yarn to the bottom of a gourd.
  2. Start wrapping until you've completely covered the gourd.
  3. Secure yarn with a dab of hot glue.
  4. Use the sewing needle to stitch Xs around the gourd in constrasting yarn colors.

Pumpkin Idea No. 2:

  1. Hot-glue the end of your yarn to the center of the gourd.
  2. Wrap the yarn until you've created a color band 1-2 inches wide.
  3. Secure yarn with a dab of hot glue.
  4. Hot-glue the end of a contrasting piece of yarn to the center of the first color (as demoed in video) or beside the last color (as shown above).
  5. Wrap the yarn until you've created a color band about 1-inch wide.
  6. Repeat as desired.
  7. Secure yarn with a dab of hot glue.

More Yarn-Wrapped Pumpkin Ideas

Burlap Pumpkin Idea: Measure and cut burlap to fit around the pumpkin. Fray edges by pulling a few burlap threads. Using a yarn needle, intermittently weave yarn horizontally through burlap. Repeat with assorted yarns. Secure burlap to the pumpkin using hot glue.

Web Design Pumpkin: Secure yarn to the bottom of pumpkin with hot glue. Wrap in a random web design, using hot glue to secure if needed. Repeat with assorted yarn colors, wrapping randomly atop one another until web design is created.

Yarn Tassel Pumpkin: Secure yarn to bottom of the pumpkin stem with hot glue. Tightly wrap yarn up the stem, securing with hot glue when needed. Clip yarn at top and secure. Tie five 8-10-inch strands as one around the base of the stem and knot. Fray edges.
