This shimmery mermaid pumpkin proves our favorite sea creatures aren't just for summer! This easy decorated pumpkin is covered with classic wafer candy and finished with a glittery tail. Display your mythical pumpkin with seashells for a beachy Halloween centerpiece.

What You'll Need

  • Small faux pumpkin
  • White craft paint
  • Paint brush
  • Pastel candy wafers
  • Cardstock or poster board
  • Glittery cardstock
  • Colorful beads
  • Hot glue gun
  • Hot glue

Step 1: Add the Candy

Paint your small pumpkin white and let dry completely. The pumpkin will become the mermaid tail. Begin gluing on the pastel wafer candy in a circle 1/2-inch from the top of the pumpkin. Be sure to alternate colors. Use one small dot of glue per candy for the best hold.

Step 2: Create the Scales

To give your mermaid tail scales, overlap each wafer candy in a circular pattern. Alternate colors for a shimmery, mermaid-look. Apply extra dots of glue in the grooves of the pumpkin, so the candy adheres.

Step 3: Cut the Tail

Cut a mermaid-shaped tail out of glitter paper, leaving a large enough base so that the tail can easily be glued to the top of the pumpkin. Tuck the flat bottom under the first row of wafer candies but in front of the stem, and secure with glue.

Step 4: Finish the Mermaid

To finish the mermaid pumpkin, glue pearlized beads onto candy pumpkin. Scatter the beads randomly and use a mix of coorindating colors. Attach the tail to the pumpkin with hot glue. Display your finished pumpkin with seashells and colorful rocks to complete the under-the-sea look.
